I. Mandatory Filter Replacement When Changing Oil in Wheel Excavators: No Mixing of Old and New Oil
When changing the oil in a wheel excavator, the oil filter element must be replaced simultaneously. Contaminants such as metal shavings and sludge inside the old filter, if mixed into the new oil, will accelerate the wear of engine components and significantly reduce the performance of the new oil. During operation, first drain the old oil, remove and replace the filter element, and then pour in the new oil to ensure the cleanliness of the lubrication system.
II. Seasonal Oil Replacement for Wheel Excavators: Different Oils for Winter and Summer
Switch to suitable oils according to the season:
• Replace with summer oil in spring: In high summer temperatures, use oils with a slightly higher viscosity (e.g., 15W-40) to form a stable oil film, protecting mechanical components and preventing high-temperature wear.
• Replace with winter oil in autumn: In cold winter regions, switch to low-viscosity oils (e.g., 5W-30) to ensure low-temperature fluidity, reducing starting resistance and carbon buildup.
Note: Do not mix winter and summer oils. Incorrect oil usage can lead to lubrication failure and exacerbate wear on components such as cylinders and piston rings.
III. Two Strict Standards for Oil Selection in Wheel Excavators
1. Choose Regular and Qualified Oil Products:
Prioritize brand oils certified by API (American Petroleum Institute) or ACEA (European Automobile Manufacturers' Association). Reject "three-no" products (no brand, no certification, no warranty). Inferior oils, due to impure base oils and insufficient additives, can cause serious engine failures such as cylinder scoring and bearing burnout.
2. Select the Appropriate Grade According to the Equipment Manual:
Based on the engine model and operating environment of the wheel excavator, choose the appropriate quality grade (e.g., CF-4, CH-4) and viscosity grade. The oil standards specified in the manual are the best reference.
Recommended Oil Change Intervals for Wheel Excavators
• First maintenance for new machines: 50 - 100 hours
• Regular maintenance: Every 250 - 300 hours or every 6 months (whichever comes first)
• Harsh working conditions (e.g., dusty, high-temperature environments): Shorten to every 200 hours
Proper oil change is crucial for extending the lifespan of a wheel excavator's engine. Adhering to the principles of "replace the filter when changing oil, change oil according to the season, and use qualified oil" can effectively reduce the risk of mechanical failures.
